Spark
Spark formed in 2017 by a group of friends with the initial goal to write in the style of passionate ‘00s hardcore that they grew up with. The German straight edge hardcore band released a demo that year that perfectly captured this sound—taking on influences from early- ‘00s youth crew/hardcore bands like Carry On, Have Heart, and In My Eyes. Their music delivers much more than this though. Throughout their 2017 Demo and 2019 Split w/ Chain Reaction (Control Records), Spark has established an overall theme with their music. To precisely capture this, vocalist Andy Villhauer states, “It’s not straight edge, it’s confronting yourself with troubling questions and issues. Trying to find answers and solutions to become a better person in the end.”
